Outrunner HB3650 ($21.50) pushes 5lb 4s O/B mono 37mph

I tried the HB3650 in my flat bottom outboard mono (see my avitar for the model in full size) which weighs 83.5 ounces. It pushed the boat 35.7 mph GPS with an Octura x437/3 with 77 amps peak and 60 amps at top speed. An Octura X440/3 took it 37.0 mph GPS at 90 amps peak and 73 amps at top speed. This is with a Turginy 5000 mah 25c 4s battery and a Turginy Marine 120 amp BESC. The motor cost $21.50 including delivery (which took 5 or 6 weeks from http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20083). You can get it much faster from http://www.southriverrcboats.com. The motor comes back very cool because I use DWI (Direct Water Injection) into the motor while it is running! The Jet Screamer 1400 motor got to 35 mph PITOT with the X437. The HB3650 might be a good SPEC motor, since it is much cheaper than current SPEC motors, and is available from many helicopter sources as well. I wonder what would happen if I went to 6s with DWI.

I feed the cooling outlet hose from the BESC into the slot next to the 3 wire exit in the motor. For an outboard this is at the bottom and the water comes out as a fine mist at the top. I have also tried an inrunner on a HM Microcat with no water protection and have run this way for 3 years with no trouble. The inrunner is often submersed, and runs fine even completely underwater. Water injection is cheap and easy to add to an existing motor.
