    Steve McDonald's Custom TunderCat 31

We had a practice day with our club this past Sunday (March 14, 2010), and one of our members, Steve McDonald, showed up with this beauty! Power was two seperate SV27 power systems, set up for counter-rotation.

Thing could do quite a wheelie if you punched it, but REALLY ran well, and handled well too.

Steve is a real out of the box thinker... He has an REK/P-Limited power system powered BLENDER as well!

    Nicely done, Steve!!

No GPS or EagleTree... but FAST... way faster than a P-Limited boat... would be competitive in P-Offshore, for sure.

        Darin,

Thank you for the pictures! What type of outdrive system does he have on the boat (make/model)? I am in the early stages of a similar design and I really like the outdrive he has set up. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

REK Lower units with SV27 power systems on them... 4S1P each... I think the props were Octura X447 and X447/R 2-blades...

AweSOOOME to watch on it's maiden voyage...the sound of the twin SV motors is absolutely the coolest RC boat sound I have ever heard.
BTW, I believe his last name is McDonough.

Wow... has this thread been THAT long ago??

I went looking for this thread because I JUST ordered a brand new Thunder Cat 31 hull setup, and have two Stiletto outboards here that I'm going to mount on it, having been inspired by Steven's setup here! It'll be a bit before I get to it, but I'll make sure and post a thread when I do...

I'm surprised I don't see more of these hulls converted to electric. From what I've seen they handle speed and turning quite well. Not sure about the outboards tho. Curious to see a video. I always thought about doing one with twin ul-1 motors and stingers. I never really see people doing twins with those motors... Seems like a cool idea tho
