    Drive Cable Harmonics Remedy

While reading the Zippkits rigger manual I found that an S bend stuffing tube is better than a one bend stuffing tube.

Why an “S” shape? Tests have proven that a tube with two bends has less drag than a stuffing tube with one. The reason is that two bends support the flex cable better, reducing cable whip, and drag.

A minimal "S" constructed stuffing tube offers increased support of the flex shaft which does reduce harmonic moment over the given RPM range. However increasing surface area contact does not reduce friction in theory, quite the contrary. But the assumption is that since the movement inside the stuffing tube has increased support, and whip having been minimized or restrained the effect is less friction over the entire RPM range. And that is pretty much fact thru build experience and I assume the recomendation is one of general description. But remember this is only factual when dealing with flex shafts that are very flexible, i.e. they bend easily. On wire drives I doubt the same rules apply to the same degree.

In theory you can also CRIMP the standerd NON S shaped stuffing tube slightly in different locations using Vise-grip pliers. Adjust pliers so they will crimp exact amount each time without pinching cable. This should help reduce harmonics.
