Here is what I did with it. I originally purchased the hull with a SAW boat in mind, so I built it for P-Offshore and Q-Offshore competition. I was impressed with the strength of the glasswork, all I did was add some carbon fiber to the tunnel floor, then glassed in the motor mount, etc. It was a pretty typical cat build, just a little stronger to withstand the inevitable high speed crashes.

    Setup for Q-Offshore: Castle 1515/1Y, Castle HydroICE240, ThunderPower 6S1P/5000 mAh/85C pack, Prather 235.
    Setup for P-Offshore: Neu 1521/.5Y, Castle HydroICE240, ThunderPower 4S1P/5000 mAh/65C pack, Prather 230.

My speed goal for Q was 90 mph, but I fell a little short with a fastest pass of 88.5 mph. The new record is 86.87 mph. I just didn't have enough motor to go faster. Video of one pass can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxNrlVCNdH8

My goal for P was 80 mph, which fell the very first set of passes on smooth water with a record at 82.4 mph. I didn't try again as I wanted to concentrate on the Q setup, but there is probably close to 90 available with P power.

Equipment comments: The Castle 1515 is quite a motor. Purchased new for $115 on eBay, it never blinked when fed 6S and 300 amps. Not quite enough torque to carry the cat over 89, it nonetheless is very impressive and is a lot better motor than a Leopard 4082.

I can't say enough about the Castle HydraICE 240. It never missed a beat in 19 separate SAW runs. The data logging is a great tool for tuning, and of equal importance is the programability to reduce power on startup. No surprise as I have been oval racing with the ICE aircraft controllers for over a year with zero issues. A lot of ICE controllers were in use in LA but the only controllers I saw fail were Swordfish and Schulzes.

The Skunkworks cat is one of the most enjoyable SAW boats I've driven. Smooth and very strong, it survived two 80+ mph crashes with zero damage. Plus it's just cool watching it run.

Awesome work Jay. I'm glad you posted this. Most ironic thing about it is I was just telling a forum member last night that I wished I kept it and built it as a single drive. Then today you post this. Great job on it. I'm glad it went to a good home and finally got built.

Nice work Jay. Funny thing I watched the Youtube video about 3 hours ago and was wondering what boat it was. Thank you for posting!

Probably not very good. Fast on the straights, but the narrow stepped cats usually do not turn nearly as well as wider cats. Using a very long rudder can help, but something on the order of a lightweight MeanMachine will turn a lot better.
