    Turnigy Typhoon 500 motor

Ran a Typhoon 500 in my DF26 today. Very choppy water but, it seemed to perform similar to the UL-1 motor, only its $25 not $57 or so.

I ran same prop as with the UL-1, a k42mm Graupner carbon. I also tried briefly for giggles, a Grim 40mm x57mm 3 blade and it rocked nice on that, just too much torque roll. The 42mm gave it similar if not the same speed as a UL-1 but, thats just a visual, not backed by real numbers.

I don;t have any water cooling on it and the second and third runs it came back quite nice, not hot at all. The first run with old Lipos it was hot but I could hold my palm on it continously without burn.

Best damn $25 motor I've ever tried. Hands Down!!!

They are in stock for once too.

I thought they may be pretty good. I have not gotten one yet but fihured it was worth the money.

I use that motor in my 500 size heli, makes some serious power for $25! Keep in mind though that the KV rating they said (1700) is more like 1900kv. I don't know if they fixed the description yet at HC to show that. We run them at 6s and about 50-70 amps with no problems.

I've had that motor in my wishlist for a while now,
I was not sure about the performance but just the reviews alone make it worth $25+ ship...
maybe I'll try it one of these days.

                Hi Ray
                Hi everybody

Quick question and hope someone can help me.....

Is the motor a direct fit for the 540 inrunner motors? By direct fit I mean is the spacing for the mounting screw 2.5 cm and need no modification to fit for a standard 540 motor mount?

                Thanks

                JC

There are some here in this thread. It has a UL-1 motor & jacket in the pics, it is out and the Turnigy is in it now.

It fits the same as an inrunner, the shaft is very long, so I cut a 1/4" off mine.
                              5mm shaft...
