    The Real Thing (Tenshock Mono1)

My son really wanted a red boat with "Coca Cola" written on it...

Project started with a used Tenshock Mono1. Hull is about 22", and has a flood chamber. It is fiberglass with gelcoat, all white with some decals on it. Existing motor and ESC have seen better days, so I'll swap these out with a Fiegao 380 10XL and will try a used Proboat Fastech ESC. This will run on 3S1P.

The canopy is kinda funky on this boat-- very flat without a "cockpit" per se, but with the paint job I have it mind, it'll work out just fine.

Here are some pics of the original hull.

This is the first paint job I've attempted. I wanted red on the upper half, and to keep the white gelcoat on the bottom half.

I basically followed the instructions in this "tips" section on OSE (Thanks!!!)

    http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/inf...spraypaint.php

-Removed all hardware, taped bottom of hull
-Sanded the upper half with 400grit paper to remove gelcoat
-Applied 1 mist coat of Krylon white primer (I did not use the Fusion line of paint), followed by a couple of wet coats
-Let this dry for 3 days

    -Wet sand with 600 grit
-Mist coat of Banner Red Krylon, followed by 3 wet coats.
-Let this dry for a week (got busy with work...)

-Mist Krylon clear coat (gloss) + 3 or 4 wet coats, let dry for a week (work...)
    -Wet sand with 600 grit

-Was about to apply the coca cola decal I ordered from Signnetwork.com (http://www.signnetwork.com/Coca-Cola-p-129303.html), when I discovered that what I thought was a white logo decal was actually a "stencil" (had a red vinyl outline of the letters, but the actual letters were cut out, so that background would show through). So, I decided to go with the stencil idea-- I applied the decal, taped up the entire boat, and then applied Krylon White Gloss (about 5-6 coats). When it dried for about an hour, I removed the tape and carefully peeled off the decal-- it worked fantastic. So what you see in the pics is spray painted white "coca cola" logo on the sides. Rest are decals.

Final steps were to carefully wet-sand the white coca cola lettering, apply other decals, and final clear coats.

I'm very happy how the painting and decals worked out! Next step is to install new motor and ESC.

Wow! Great job. You mention the 'funky' hatch.. I totally agree. I tried in vain to get Tenshock to change that...even sent them drawings on how it would be really easy to do using existing hatch molds they have as a starting point. They refused. Consequence? I don't carry the boat!

However....ahem...I do have one more of them if anyone is interested. It's yellow.

It looks cool in the Coke colour scheme BHChieftain, very good well done to you and your son.

Sailr, maybe you can help me, I have a Tenshock Mono1 that I bought second hand too, I was told that it was an old version not the current one but don't know for sure, it seems hard to believe that they would replace my canopy for BHChieftain's, can you tell me which came first?

I think the shape of the hatch works with this paint scheme because the boat kinda looks like a bottle to begin with!

                      Nativepaul,

The photo you have must be the most recent version. They FINALLY added some character to the hatch!

My proposal to them would have married the hatch on our Micro Hydro to the Mono 1 and would have been great looking. Never did figure out why they were so stubborn about it. Tenshock's major market is now Europe where they really don't care as much about what a boat looks like so long as it is fast.

Got the motor and ESC placed. Using a Fiegao 380 10XL (for 3S), and a second hand Proboat Fastech ESC. This BARELY fits in the hull, but I think it will work out nice-- hoping the fairly beefy ESC along the flood chamber will reduce the need for lead weights to get her to roll over.

Got the coupler in mail the other day (1/8 output drive to .150 cable), but the existing flexdrive is too short-- will need to fab up a new one...

Looking for advice on how to address a drive line issue--

With the new feigao motor and coupler I'm using, the existing flex drive is about 1/2" too short. The flex shaft is .150, and the prop shaft is 4mm, and has 2 bearings that allow it to fit into a flanged strut that exists the rear of the boat. I *think* the diameter of the strut opening is 8mm.

I ordered a new .150 flex shaft, and it has a 3/16 shaft attached to it. I'd like to stick with 3/16 so I can use more props (the existing 4mm shaft accepts a threaded prop...)

                              I'm thinking I have 3 options:

                              1) order new bearings with english diameters that get as close to an outer diameter of 8mm -- so I'd order a set of 3/16 ID, 5/16 OD (5/16" is 7.937mm) -- and use these with the 3/16 prop shaft

                              or

                              2) unsolder the new flexshaft from the 3/16 prop shaft, unsolder the old flexshaft from the 4mm prop shaft, and resolder the new longer flexshaft onto the 4mm prop shaft, then add a 4mm drive dog + adapter sleeve so I can use 3/16 props

                              or

                              3) remove the old motor mount and install a new one 1/2 closer to the transom and just use the original driveline

I'd rather not do path #2 or #3 if I can help it... also, I'm concerned that the flex shaft I ordered is not soldered but glued... so I might be out of luck on that one (it was a pre-assembled "Ms. Geico" replacement flex shaft from OSE-- I ordered that as OSE was out of stock on unassembled .150 flex shafts)

Do you think option 1 would work?

                              Any other suggestions?
