    BBY Micro Patriot

I bought a BBY Micro patriot a few years back and decided to work on it.

I have been working on sharpening the transom area by back filling with epoxy and block sanding it in.

How carried away should I get?

I have the transom side done and flat/level. I had a few spots I needed more epoxy. Im now working to bring the strake parts from rounded to sharp. Im also sharpening the outter corners.

Power will come by way of the 26x30 Mystery 3000kV outrunner and mystery 30 amp ESC.

Hardware will be custom strut and a purchased rudder. I have a custom burnend motor mount plate. 1/8" prop shaft, .063 piano wire drive (I think) or .098 cable.

Not sure on power yet. Any recommendations for mAh

Im going to use a team associated XPS2 radio system.

On sharpening the edges the more the better on the transom and the strakes. it helps the release and cutting, nothing else on the hull is needed to be sharpened.
On the Kv, 300kv is real low. 3000kv is a little hot for the MP, I am getting a 1700Kv to try in mine and for a customer. I installed the 3000kv motor in a War Zone Jr to test I hope to get it to the pond soon. I hope it does not rain this Sunday.

      Hey Randy, thanks for posting!

      I left a 0 out, its 3000 kV.

I bought a few sets for micro hydro's.

I have the transom done up and I was doing the very otter edges about 4" worth and was going to blend them in and call it a day.

While you are here, what size hardware would you recommend for this boat approximately?

I was curious how far back I should set the prop and what size of rudder.

Set it up as close as possible, the farther away from the transom the more lift. With the power we have now it will be hard to keep in the water. Nimh might help.

I make a nice little set of hardware for the boat for $80.00 everything you need less coupler.

          Thanks for the advice Randy.

Im building this for my daughter, shes 9. Needless to say shes tired of that slow reef racer 2...

I have the otter edges of the boat sharpened up about 4" forward then rounded over. The transom is sharp. I sharpened the V for about 1" then made a flat ride pad- to experiment.

I think I will make the stub out about 1" out the back of the boat, maybe a tad less. I want to put a rudder on center so it steers good.

            Just a small update.

I ended up going with a wire drive, .047". The wire fits the stock Aquacraft Mini Rio coupler so I went that route.

I have the stuffing tube/strut bent, mounted and glued into place. I just took a guess on it since I am a newb.

I mounted the motor in the custom mount I had burned out, made some gussets for the side. Its light and ROCK solid.

For power I have a 3S 1000 mAh 15C battery available. Thats a tad over the 30,000 RPM mark people told me I needed (for my larger boat). Will that be acceptable for this boat?

Im working on the rudder next. I have some rudders I made for a Hydromite. I intend to place it behind the prop. How much rudder should be below the keel line in such a setup?

You will not be able to keep the boat in the water. 2S will be too much for the little boat on 3000Kv. Like I said I am going to test with a 1700kv motor and 2S possibly 3S and either 2200mah

Ah, maybe I will try to pick up a lower KV then or just goto the 2S packs. I was going to borrow the 3 S packs from my Dad. Guess I will just use them for sizing/balancing. The needed batteries are cheap enough :)

I gotta order stuff outta Hong Kong anyhow.

About how much would you say on that rudder Randy? Im looking at about 3/4"~ 7/8"?

Thanks to a little encouragement and advice on RC Universe I got the rudder mounted.

I need to make a new arm for the rudder- the current one is junk.

Now to get the bellow mounted up and get the servo mounted :)

My build is probably a little crude and sloppy for some of you. But im just a beginner- so take it easy. As long as it functions correctly Im happy.

I just hope my nine year old doesnt sink it... lol

She wants me to paint it pink... Im thinking purple though.

                    Well Im done, for now.

Im waiting on my 2S 1300 mah 15c packs. I may give this a try on the 3S 1000 mah 15c pack and see what she does or doesnt do.

I did a dry run bench test, hot dang it screams...

I did a float test in the bath tub and she floats well. With the battery on the side opposite of the receiver/esc the boats fairly balanced.

The boat will run a tad wet I think. The balance points a bit more forward than 30/70- but given the power plants kv it might be a good thing.

After a quick bath tub test I discovered my solder joint on the wire drive wasnt good enough.

So I will be contacting Jeff for yet another drive.

Nice to see other people using the same motor that I have.
Use small props with that high kv motor!
I've put this little mystery 3000kv outrunner motor in my Hydromite. I'm running 3S A123 in it which is less volts than 3S lipo. For quite some time I ran the boat with 2-bladed Graupner carbon props, K series. 29-31 mm de-tongued. But tried the 3-bladed 30mm prop and the boat became even faster :)
See this short video a friend made while I was testing the boat:

I just got the new motor it is a little bigger a 2836 and 1700Kv This is going to be fun to test in the little micros. It also has a 4MM shaft!

I got two more sets of the motor/esc combo to find homes.

I probably should finish off the two Hydromites I shelfed awhile ago and put them in there. Looks wicked fast.
