Thread: shocker 950 or sprintcat ?

  1. #1

Default shocker 950 or sprintcat ?

been thinking on building my first twin cat this winter and was connsidering the 37" Shocker 950 from fightercat http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...emart&Itemid=1 and the Aeromarine Sprint Cat 40 http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=Aero-sc-40

was originally planing the sprintcat with 2X leopard 4074 2200KV on 4s2p (becose i already have 10 4S packs) but then the shocker 950 came and it do look great but do it handle and how do it work in the real world ?

so what to get ? witch would be better ? i only do sport running but like speed as much as the rest of you
hoping for speeds around 50-55 mph and runtimes around 8 minutes (reason for speed expectations and runtime is that i am getting that speed and runtime on my genesis now with a leopard 4074 2000kv 4S2p 5000 mah and M645).

    thank you for your input

SC40 is tried and proven, US manufacture.

FC 'Shocker' by name and nature ?
Sure looks the biz... is there a build thread anywhere to check feasibility and performance ?

FYI- the Shocker is based on a well known European hull (Hopf mold).

If you're looking for an offshore racing cat, there is a 34" MTI cat coming November that is poised to challenge the sprint cat.

While I haven't ever seen a sprintcat, I have just received my shocker 950, and I can tell you now you will be hard pressed to find a higher quality hull on the planet. The fit of the lid is so perfect that it's hard to get it out! There is 20-30% more room at least in the sponsons than the genesis I have, the hull is really rigid as well unlike some other carbon hulls I have seen and touched that were very thin and still flimsy in carbon.

I don't have a comparison for you, but I would be hard pressed seeing anyone including the fussiest of people being unhappy with the shocker=)

Interesting extrapolation of crystal ball technology.
I assume you have one... a crystal ball ?
"Never seen a sprint cat, but this cat is better."
    Why ?.. because it's shiny ?

Seriously hoping the hull runs as good as it looks.
Sad it seems a limited production run...

Did you have a big night on the VB and decide to try and start a bitch fight with a local Aussie Wayne lol? If you read my post a little more clearly I never compared the 2, in fact I clearly stated twice I had never seen a sprint cat, but that I do own a shocker and the quality and finish would please even the fussiest of people.

Please except my humble apologies for not writing my post more clearly so you could understand what I meant, should you need any more clarification shoot me a pm:)

VB is one of those iconic beverages that most have tried, tho few high school graduates buy .....
    [cough]

Your original post reads a bit like the kid who finds a big box under the christmas tree.. rips it open and declares "Wow, this is the best bike in the whole world , so shiny.. it's going to be the fastest ever !.. please can I put it together and see how it goes ?"

Once Ben's first build reviewer has supplied empirical critique, we will know ... until then, sure.. it's nice and shiny.

Here's looking to a winning design....

As someone who builds and works on 1/4 million dollar race cars with 3000 times the engineering of any rc boat in the world, I hardly appreciate being compared to a kid or thinking the hull is great just because it is shiny, maybe the reflection off your phd hanging on the wall is blinding you from reading my posts correctly or something, or you just feel you demonstrate far superior knowledge so choose to talk down to someone, I don't know, but again just in case you didn't go back over and read it a second time, let me make it clear for you again:

I have not seen a sprintcat, but the BUILD QUALITY of the FC shocker is great, in case your powers of perception can't distinguish the obvious, this also reads as:

I have not run the FC shocker yet, but the build quality is certainly first rate

    From Ben's earlier post

"FYI- the Shocker is based on a well known European hull (Hopf mold)"

Not that I can bothered looking for the info on this hull, as my post never commented on its running ability, if it concerns you so much as to its performance maybe you can spend the day looking up info on what is apparently a well known and tested European hull rather than worrying about comments I have posted on the build quality of it and going out of your way to be an ass for no apparent reason Maybe your just having a bad day and decided to take it out on me Wayne? If not and its a specific problem with me, I'm sure you can find the pm button no problems rather than tangle up this thread with arguing semantics

How quickly things can spiral out of context.
" based on a well known European hull (Hopf mold) " ... all are now beta testing a modified product.
Hopf are good, is this better ?

We look forward to specification and film of a completed project.

Funny part about that Hopf is my last name lol. Can't say ever in this lifetime I've had a conversation about something that shared the same name=P

To get back on topic, Ive still got a lot of testing on the Shocker 950. Some connectors coming in from FC tomorrow it seems will allow me to install one of Bens 300A ESCs and get her wet again. So far Ive got it dialed in a straight line but have some work to do on getting it to corner. I have very little water tim e with it so far so theres a lot of improvement to be made Im sure.

I will say this though, the Sprint cat is a tough hull to beat. It handles and corners amazingly well with minimal set up effort. I had a genesis, went to a DF cat and hands down the SC is the way to go. The Shocker is showing potential though. She runs light and is a little skiddish but time will tell. This coming Sunday is race weekend so stay alert to my build thread on the 950... more info will be posted at that time.

i think i wil wait for the new "mti" cat from fightercat and se what it looks like, have a long winter here up north so it should leave lots of build time :)

Ben and I have talked a lot about his new MTI hull coming out. I'm pretty sure he's gunna hit a home run with it.
Although, and just from testing so far, the shocker is for sure a great sport boat. It looks great and handles chop amazingly well. Its far from a boat not worth having. I can't wait til ben clears me to do a twin drive.. I think a little weight may be a good thing.

The Aeromarine cats are really good in race water. They get faster as the water gets nastier. Pretty predicable handling through out a whole heat.

A twin cat is likely going to slide out of the turns like a drift car. For a straight liner, for fun boat, give me the one that looks sweet. The FC cats all look sweet. I believe the Hopf and the BK cats are similar. I'm not positive on that though. My BK went like hell in a straight line. Didn't like to turn much.

I'm very curious about the MTI cats. 34" would fall right into the P/P Limited range. Race potential? A sweet looking boat that I could actually race is very exciting to me. Same reason I like the Geico boat. It looks awesome and runs like a scolded dog. Just don't smash into anything like say......the water.
