Ben, I run the castle 2200 w/turnigy 180 on 4s in a thundercat conversion. low 50's with an m455. Runs very cool. The apparition is a much lighter hull and should run fast with the castle. But that motor mount is too low and your castle motor will bottom out on the hull with the cooling can on it.(I already tried it) I finally settled on a motor mount from phil @ vac-u-boat.(first pic)

The low speed passes were about 20mph or 1/4 - 1/2 throttle. I wanted to make sure a good amount of water was coming out of the spout. Low speed not to be confused with slow.
Wheres your cog? Whats your strut hieght and angle?

Theres been a lot of discussion on the forums about wot vs running it anything but, and heat/ stress issues on the equipment in doing so. All I can comment is my experience, which recently involved a newly set up BJ26. My first run I 'played" w/ it a lot. A lot of stop and go and 1/2 throttle passes. I ran about 10 minutes or so like that, not hitting the LVC and still had a bit left in the batteries. (3S2P set up.) My next run I ran it about flat out until the LVC kicked in just to establish a run time. That 2nd run was about 10 degrees cooler than my first.

And as Oz said, typical set up, cooling lines will feed the ESC first, then the motor.

I guess I should start with setting up the COG. Any suggestions on calculating it?

The strut height & angle can be seen in the photo above.

27 to 32% is a good ballpark. So your hull, from the sponson transom to the tip is about 28.5 inches. 27% puts you about 7.6" If I remember, Im running mine close to 8.25, but thats also at 70mph. So Id start at 7.5 (moving the batts) and go from there.

Oh, and if you can, post a pic perpendicular to the boat of the side of the drive so we can see where your strut height is and angle. Cant tell at all from any of your pics.

I was able to put the GPS on it and go for another run. Hate Saturdays... always packed at the inlet.

            36.2 jumping some small waves.

Found some info on the stock motor (not the 2700 I'm running, the stock 1520Kv)

It's a 540/3660 made by Feisuda and has a max amp rating of 38a, does not have a max v listed.

Here's some side shots, didn't realize there wasn't enough of the boat to tell the strut angle.

I increased the angle (not sure what that adjustment is called) of the strut to where it currently is. It was less angled.

Thats what I needed to see. Your strut angle is pretty negative. Set it to neutral (0 degrees) and keep the bottom of the strut a little bit up from the bottom of the sponsons.

Id guess once you get her trimmed out right, you should get a bit closer to the 40mph mark. What mah batts are you running and whats the pitch on your 38mm prop?

Where did you find your motor on the link you posted? Heres your motor right? http://www.fsd-motor.com/en_productview.asp?id=309 when I click on the spec dl for it, it comes back page not found.

Yep. 38mph, but still jumps & skips... The boat comes up, the prop unloads (rpm's go up) the spray dies down, then the boat comes down (tip 2-4 inches) the rpms come down and the spray goes back up.

                      I moved the COG to 7 3/4"

I think I was completely off base about torqueing.

BTW- the high speed run theory led to my motor wires melting! Well, not really, just enough that the factory solder job came loose on one of the bullets. The ESC was really hot. Like 150 +.

I think I have a cooling deficiency. I'm only using the stock rudder pickup... until the new pickups arrive. It doesn't seem to flow out the side as fast as my other boats do.

Did you check the inlet on teh rudder and all the connections where the cooling lines hook up? Sometimes theres just a small blockage, be it from picking something up or some flashing left over. Doesnt take much to mess up the flow.

When mine was hopping, Im trying to remember what settled it down. I think I had to lower the strut. I remember it was backwards from what I thought it would be.

Not sure who makes them for Turnigy, but this is the one that I bought from HK and is a big 540 sized case. Much larger than the EKOS 380's.

Although, now my EKOS has twin 1800kv 540's!

Yeah, not sure what is messing it up. I can use the "pepsi bottle" and get it to flow, but it is much harder than my other systems. Each individual is OK, but all together it seems to be a slow flow. Maybe I'll skip the motor mount and see if that improves things a bit.

I ordered the Gundert and the Streamlined OSE pickups. The Gundert pickups look like they will do an excellent job on the bottom of the sponsons.
